The Eye of the Acoustic Storm

Billy Joel

Each week, a different artist is spotlighted in “The Eye of The Acoustic Storm.” Hourly segments of “The Eye” feature the artist’s music along with bio information and sound bites.

Early in his career, Billy Joel made a living as a lounge singer and piano player in Los Angeles, under the name Bill Martin. That experience helped provide the inspiration for his signature song, “Piano Man.” In early 2006, Billy Joel sold out 12 concerts at Madison Square Garden, breaking the old record previously held by Bruce Springsteen. In the summer of ’08, Billy performed two shows at Shea Stadium, in its last season as the home of the New York Mets.
