1963 – Peter, Paul & Mary, the folksinging trio who have helped to introduce songwriters like Bob Dylan to mainstream audiences, hold the top two positions on the pop album chart with “Blowin’ the Wind” and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright.”

1973 – Dylan hits #12 with “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” The song comes from the movie soundtrack “Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid,” a film in which Dylan has an acting role.

1973 – The Genesis album “Selling England By the Pound” reaches #3 in the UK.

1975 – Bruce Springsteen simultaneously makes the cover of Time and Newsweek magazines, a move which reportedly embarrasses the two newsweeklies and contributes to growing charges of hype associated with the singer’s breakthrough.

1996 – Springsteen plays at a rally at the Federal Building in Westwood to defeat ballot Proposition 209 – a ballot called the California Civil Rights Initiative – which would put an end to Affirmative Action.
