1969 – The Rolling Stones’ documentary film “Sympathy For The Devil” debuts in San Francisco.

1970 – Gold records go to the Stones’ “Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!” (just a month after its release), the Moody Blues’ “A Question of Balance”, Neil Young’s “After the Goldrush”, and Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding’s “Live at Monterey.”

1974 – George Harrison becomes the first Beatle to tour solo, making his first onstage appearance since the Bangla Desh concerts three years ago. The tour, which kicks off in Vancouver, Washington, will be troublesome for “the quiet Beatle,” as his voice is ravaged after LP sessions and tour rehearsals.

1979 – The movie version of The Who’s “Quadrophenia,” which features Sting, opens.

1984 – U2 kicks off a 10-date UK tour at the London Academy.

1987 – Eric Clapton plays the first of three nights at The Budokan in Tokyo.

1994 – David Crosby of the Byrds and CSN is hospitalized in Los Angeles for liver failure (he eventually receives a transplant).

2004 – Eric Clapton collects his CBE from Buckingham Palace for his service to music.
