1965 – The Rolling Stones make their debut on NBC-TV’s “Hullabaloo” TV rock show, performing “Get Off My Cloud.”

1968 – The anti-war “Marching on Washington” draws 500,000 protesters. Notable performers include Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Peter, Paul & Mary.

1969 – Janis Joplin is arrested in Tampa, Florida on charges of using “vulgar and indecent language” at her concert. After being arrested in her dressing room, Joplin is released on $504 bond. All charges were eventually dropped.

1975 – Joan Baez hits #35 with “Diamonds and Rust.” The song has thinly-veiled references to Bob Dylan.

1976 – California singer-songwriter Jackson Browne’s critically acclaimed fourth album “The Pretender,” is certified gold. He had completed work on the record in the wake of the suicide of his wife, Phyllis Major, back in March. His debut album,”Jackson Browne,” released in 1972, goes gold the next day.

1980 – David Bowie opens on Broadway in the title role of “The Elephant Man.”

2000 – The man who nearly a year earlier broke into the home of George Harrison, and stabbed the former Beatle, is found not guilty by reason of insanity in the U.K.’s Oxford Crown Court. Michael Abram is ordered confined to a mental hospital indefinitely for his attack on Harrison and his wife, which left George with a punctured lung.
