1967 – The Grateful Dead perform their epic “Dark Star” for the first time, at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium.

1974 – George Harrison meets President Gerald Ford at the White House. The president’s son Jack had seen the Harrison tour in Salt Lake City, went backstage and invited George to Washington.

1975 – Simon & Garfunkel hit #9 with “My Little Town.”

1976 – Three days after its release, “Wings Over America,” the live album by Paul McCartney & Wings goes gold.

1985 – Phil Collins makes his U.S. T.V. acting debut, playing a drug dealer on “Miami Vice.”

2002 – Zal Yanovsky, guitarist of The Lovin’ Spoonful, dies of a heart attack at age 57.

2007 – Joe Cocker receives an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) medal from England’s Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.
