1971 – George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” his first LP as an ex-Beatle, hits #1 in the U.S. The album contains two hits, “What Is Life?” and “My Sweet Lord.”

1971 – Van Morrison hits #9 with “Domino.”

1972 – Paul Simon’s self-titled album is released a year after the breakup of Simon and Garfunkel. It yields two popular singles: “Mother and Child Reunion” (#4) and “Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard” (#22).

1997 – Guitarist Randy California of Spirit drowned when rescuing his 12 year-old son in the surf off Hawaii.
