1971 – Making a rare public appearance, Bob Dylan accompanies country star Earl Scruggs on “East Virginia Blues” and “Nashville Skyline Rag” for a public documentary.

1981 – John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Double Fantasy” goes platinum, a little over a month after Lennon’s assassination. The album is Number One for eight weeks.

1997 – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers kick off the first of 20 dates in a marathon stand at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium.

2016 – David Bowie passes, two days after celebrating his 69th birthday and releasing his final studio album, “Blackstar.”
