1968 – Bill Graham, owner of the Fillmore, San Francisco’s legendary rock ballroom, opens the Fillmore East in an abandoned movie theater on Second Avenue and Sixth Street in New York City. The opening bill features Tim Buckley, Albert King, and Big Brother & the Holding Company.

1973 – Grateful Dead keyboardist and founding member Ron “Pigpen” McKernan dies of a stomach hemorrhage in Madera, California. He was just 27.

1978 – Steely Dan’s sixth album, “Aja” becomes their first album to be certified platinum.

1987 – Bob Seger finishes what he says is his last tour ever at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. Of course, it wasn’t his last tour.

2016 – Sir George Martin, producer of the Beatles, passes away at the age of 90.
