1965 – Kinks guitar player Dave Davies is knocked unconscious when he careens into drummer Mick Avory’s cymbal during a London concert. The group cancels the remainder of their U.K. tour.

1973 – Carole King gives back “a little something” to her favorite city, New York: a free concert in Central Park for an estimated 100,000 fans.

1973 – David Bowie releases “Diamond Dogs,” which will eventually peak at #5.

1978 – The Who perform a second “secret” concert in London to be filmed for their documentary movie on the band’s history, “The Kids Are Alright.” It’s Keith Moon’s last performance with the band before his death.

1991 – A fully reformed Yes release “Union,” which peaks at #15 in the US.

2000 – Paul McCartney wins the ultimate accolade from Britain’s music industry when he is awarded the first Fellowship of the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters Award during the annual Ivor Novello awards in London.
