1966 – John Lennon’s controversial remark about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus Christ is taking its toll. Stock in the band’s record company, Capitol, is dropping and the city fathers of Memphis request the cancellation of an upcoming Beatles concert in the city. John apologizes for his remarks at a televised press conference.

1968 – The Beatles release “Hey Jude” b/w “Revolution,” the first single on their own Apple Records label.

1971 – Joan Baez hits #3 with the Band song “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”
