1962 – Stuart Sutcliffe, the original bassist for the Beatles, dies of cerebral paralysis cause by a brain hemorrhage in Hamburg, Germany. He gave the Beatles the look that would soon charm the world – the shaggy, brushed-forward hairstyles. He was 22 years old.

1968 – Mickey Hart joins the Grateful Dead at the invitation of drummer Bill Kreutzmann.

1971 – Cat Stevens hits #11 with “Wild World.”

1999 – “Here, There and Everywhere: A Concert For Linda,” a charity tribute concert for the late Linda McCartney is held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Among the performers are Paul McCartney, Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders and Elvis Costello. Proceeds raised funds for animal rights causes.

1999 – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers appear as the musical guests on “Saturday Night Live.” Petty plays two cuts from his “Echo” album.
